Buy custom Money Cannot Buy Happiness essay

Life has so much to offer, however most people believe money is a major determinant of being happy or unhappy in life. There is very little relationship between money and happiness. Money is just one of the ingredients that can make one acquire happiness. It is true money can buy material things and make our lives more comfortable by allowing us to experience the best that life can offer; however, this often hinders our ability to appreciate the little pleasures in life. Therefore, money cannot buy happiness but it is just a way of making one achieve and do more in life. Some of the things money can buy are medicine or drugs but not health and food but not appetite. This is evident that money cannot buy bliss (Lyubomirsky, 2010). Most of the things money can buy do not necessary translate to happiness. This has made many people remain unsatisfied with their achievement in life due to focus on materialism, which often causes unhappiness.

According to Eisold (2010), even wealth countries do not have their citizens the happiest people in the world. People’s goals and aspirations in life differ considerably and so does what makes them happy. Most people derive their happiness from life experiences while others value material things. Money acts as just a constituent among the many things that lead to happiness but cannot buy happiness itself. In addition, most people confuse the true measure of money by believing it is a source of happens. Such people often remain frustrated due to unfulfilled goals becoming unhappy most of the times. This also reduces the quality of life leading to health problems. In most instances, money itself is a stressor when it lacks and when it is in excess. This makes it difficult to determine the extent to which it can create happiness.

Different studies carried out by psychologists and economists on the correlation between money and happiness reveal that, when money is used to lift people’s lives from abject poverty and make them meet their basic needs, it is bound to increase their happiness (Lyubomirsky, 2010). Once people reach comfortable levels in their lives, money does not improve their happiness thereafter. Indeed, most people can attest money has insignificant effects on their happiness if they are able to meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, health, and clothing.

It is not the wealthiest people in the world who lead the happiest lives but it is those who have appreciate the simple things in life who enjoy happier and richer lives. Money can never be enough, even the wealthiest people like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates still search for more. In addition, most other things like good health are a priority to everyone but money cannot buy health. If it did, then the wealthiest people could never fall sick. What people do with their life and their money in particular, their families, significant others, and friends can improve their quality of life and make them enjoy happier lives.

Nevertheless, more money is always better than less because it increases the level of contentment. One may thus conclude that, more money translates to being happy but this is a hoax, additional wealth can buy choice by satisfying ones additional needs, wants, and meeting your desires. This is expected to leave one happier as well, but does it? When one is presented with many choices and can afford what he or she wants there is less satisfaction and emotional well being since there is a tendency to believe there is always a better choice. This only leads to dissatisfaction affecting the emotional health. Therefore, as much as money may be perceived a source of happiness, it requires to be used wisely if one is to get satisfied and lead a happier life (Eisold, 2010),

In conclusion, money is just a constituent of the many things that make people happy; in fact, it is important because it helps people in creating the right conditions desired by many people for a better and happy life. However, money itself cannot buy happiness, how it is earned and spent can determine the chances of being happy. One may have all the money he or she needs and remain unhappy while another may have little and be extremely happy. It all depends on so many other variables in life whether money can improve ones happiness or not, but money cannot buy happiness. Money as a means to happiness therefore, is a controversial issue since there are rich people who have remained unhappy, on the other hand there are those with little money have enjoyed happier lives.
